Today’s episode commemorates International Women’s Day 2021.
In this premier episode of this series, Gender and Revenue Administration, FAD’s Katherine Baer, Assistant Director in charge of overseeing the IMF’s capacity development activities in tax and customs administration in the Western Hemisphere and Sub-saharan Africa, interviews two phenomenal women with experience in leading customs agencies. Our first guest speaker is the Vice President of Ecuador Maria Alejandra Muñoz. She shares with us what it takes to become a female leader and reminds us of the responsibilities that accompany such a role. Velma Ricketts-Walker, Jamaica’s Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner of the Customs Agency, is our second guest speaker. She stresses the importance of supporting women to take on non-traditional customs roles, such as customs enforcement work, and of coaching and mentoring women as they assume managerial positions in customs. In this episode, both speakers underscore the value gender diversity brings to revenue administration. Have a listen.
